Updated today

If an employee who was a regular worker needs reduced working hours for childcare and requires a work type change, please follow the settings below.

Parental Reduced-Hours Worker

Why are parental reduced hours necessary?

The parental reduced working hours system allows workers with children aged 12 or under (or in 6th grade of elementary school or below) to reduce their working hours instead of taking childcare leave.

  • Eligibility: Both male and female workers with children aged 12 or under, or in 6th grade of elementary school or below (including adopted children) (Act on Equal Employment and Work-Family Balance, Article 19-2, Paragraph 1)

  • Period: 1 year (up to 2 years when adding unused childcare leave period)

Available for both male and female workers per child, can be used once per child, minimum 3 months per usage period

  • Employers who refuse a worker's application for reduced working hours during childcare in violation of this provision may be subject to a fine of up to 5 million won (Article 39, Paragraph 2, Item 6)

  • How to set up parental reduced working hours

    • Go to [Settings] → [Work Types] → [Add Type] - Set the working hours to 6 hours in the [Working Style] tab under [Basic Settings].

Parental reduced working hours is a legal reduction of working hours, but it is merely a form of work arrangement and does not change the annual leave calculation method.

In other words, even during parental reduced working hours, annual leave should be granted based on the worker's original contracted 'prescribed working hours (8 hours)'.

  • Enable [Set Weekly Holiday Hours and Leave Day Standard Separately], then set the weekly holiday hours and leave 1-day standard to 8 hours.

FAQ

Do I need to rewrite the employment contract for parental reduced working hours?

  • Parental Reduced Working Hours: Employment Contract Required O

    • Legal basis: A separate employment contract is legally mandatory under Article 19-3, Paragraph 2 of the Act on Equal Employment and Work-Family Balance.

Our company uses a quarter-day leave system. Reduced-hours workers are also deducted 2 hours. What should I do?

If parental reduced working hours are set to 6 hours (work hours: 6 hours, 1-day standard: 8 hours), a quarter-day leave during the reduced-hours period should be 1 hour 30 minutes, not 2 hours.

This is applied in the leave usage unit settings, not in the work type settings. When other employees need 2 hours and reduced-hours workers need 1 hour 30 minutes, you should change this accordingly.

[Annual Leave Policy Settings]

It is not possible to set different configurations within a single annual leave policy for different employees.

You need to add a separate annual leave policy and apply it separately.

1. Settings > Annual Leave Settings > Add Annual Leave Policy
2. Set usage unit to 30 minutes and save

3. Apply the added policy to pregnancy/parental reduced-hours workers (can be applied from profile)

4. When employees use leave, register in 30-minute units for 1 hour 30 minutes
