We'll explain the often confusing weekly holiday pay with easy-to-understand examples.
What is Weekly Holiday Pay?
The Labor Standards Act states that employers must guarantee workers at least one paid holiday per week on average. Weekly holiday pay is the allowance paid to workers who have perfect attendance on all contractual work days during a week.
However, ultra-short-time workers working less than 15 hours per week are not eligible for paid holidays (weekly holidays).
I want to know the eligibility criteria for weekly holiday pay.
The key factor for weekly holiday pay eligibility is "whether the employee had perfect attendance on all contractual work days during the week." Let's review the criteria with examples.
Weekly holiday pay is paid when the employee attended all scheduled work days in the week
Regardless of tardiness or early departure during the week, if there is any work record on each scheduled work day, weekly holiday pay is granted.
Regardless of tardiness or early departure on specific work days, if there is even 1 minute of work record, weekly holiday pay is paid
If there is no work record on even one scheduled work day, it is considered an absence and weekly holiday pay is not paid for that week
When an employee is absent on a contractual work day, weekly holiday pay is not granted. In flex, having no work record on a scheduled work day is considered an absence.
If you want to pay weekly holiday pay for that week, you need to add a work/leave record, or modify the recognized weekly holiday pay hours value in the attendance report.
Weeks including leave, leave of absence, or public holidays
If leave is used for all scheduled work days in the week, weekly holiday pay is not paid. However, if there is at least one day with a work record during the week, weekly holiday pay is paid
If all scheduled work days in the week fall within a leave of absence period, weekly holiday pay is not paid. However, if there is at least one day with a work record, weekly holiday pay is paid
If all scheduled work days are public holidays & company-designated holidays with no work records, weekly holiday pay is not paid. However, if there is at least one day with a work record, weekly holiday pay is paid
Weeks including hire/termination dates
If an employee is hired mid-week, weekly holiday pay is paid if there are attendance records for all scheduled work days after the hire date
Weeks including the termination date:
For employees with a Mon-Sun work cycle, if the last work day (termination date) is Sunday of that week, weekly holiday pay is paid
For employees with a Mon-Sun work cycle, if the last work day (termination date) is Friday of that week, weekly holiday pay is not paid
For employees with a Tue-Mon work cycle, if the last work day (termination date) is Monday of the following week, weekly holiday pay is paid
